TOP TEN TV CHART SHOW
Top Ten TV Chart Show, a popular infotainment programme was a weekly music-video and entertainment news magazine that featured video renditions of local songs that were rated as the top ten songs played on radio, television and music sales for each week.
The programme’s middle section, called Zoom In, was an entertainment news feature that reported on popular cultural events and happenings around the country, and featured interviews with popular artists and personalities in the entertainment and leisure industries.
The programme, which premiered on Ghana TV (GTV) in 2006, achieved much significant acclaim in the country as offering quality infotainment in its first season on air. Below is a review that appeared in the “Letters You Write” section of Graphic Showbiz (August 24 – August 30, 2006, p.2):
" TOP TEN CHART IS GREAT!!!
I wish to commend producers of the new Top Ten TV Chart Show currently on GTV for bringing variety to entertainment on television.
I have been a critique of trends in TV shows on our screens.
There is generally an imbalance between good content and quality technical editorial presentation. With this show however things are different.
The programme combines a fast-paced and packed content for viewers.
I find the docu-entertainment segment dubbed Zoom-In exciting.
I’ve watched just the first three episodes and I sense this could turn up as one of the finest TV shows in recent times.
However there are some observations I have made which in my opinion could affect the show. Wednesday offers good mid-week entertainment but the show airs too late for my liking. Lead presenter Nii Ayi has good diction, and an imposing presence on screen but he ought to adopt a livelier style.
The producers should also find a way of feeding more music videos into the limited time.
Finally as the only TV Chart Show monitoring the Ghana music scene, the show must build its own credibility with time and avoid engaging in unwholesome affiliations.
