ON ABOAKYER (DEER HUNTING) FESTIVAL
A very entertaining documentary
on Aboakyer festival, which takes place every May in the
town of Winneba, in the Central Region of Ghana. The festival
literally means 'catching a live deer,' and it is celebrated
in remembrance of the town's fetish god, Apa Sekum, who
is said to have helped the people in various ways. The deer
is captured alive and sacrificed to the fetish god.

DOCUMENTARY ON KENTE FESTIVAL
A very colourful documentary on a festival celebrating
the internationally recognized Kente cloth. The festival,
which takes place every July/August in the Kente production
town of Bonwire, located in the Ashanti Region of Ghana,
commemorates the origin of the Kente cloth, Bonwire,
over 300 years ago. The festival celebrates the significance
of the Kente cloth as a unique, but internationally
recognized, cultural artefact from Ghana.

DOCUMENTARY ON DIPO
A revealing documentary exploring the Dipo festival
and its ceremonies.
The festival, which takes place
every March/April, celebrates the rite of passage
for girls from the Dangme ethnic group, located in
the Eastern Region of Ghana, who have reached the
age of puberty. The festival and its ceremonies mark
their transition from childhood into adulthood. The
initiates are taken through lessons of home keeping,
good cooking, bed making and good motherhood.
